A TEFL Guide to Argentina

Known as the most European country in South America, Argentina is the 8th largest city in the world  and 2nd largest in South America. With a well established TEFL industry, and heaps to see and do, from the stunning Andean peaks, huge glaciers and bustling cosmopolitan cities, Argentina is the perfect place to teach English.

The best way to get a job in Argentina is to send your CV to all the schools you would consider working in, as many schools won’t advertise their positions online. If you are willing to fly out to the country before securing a position, you will find many TEFL positions advertised locally. It’s common for teachers to also offer private lessons as a source of extra income, which they also find once they have moved to Argentina. Argentina attracts many people looking to teach English overseas for the first time, so you’ll be in good company if this is your first TEFL experience.

Iguazú Falls

One of the world’s most stunning natural wonders, Iguazu Falls is a series of magnificent waterfalls located on the Iguazu River, on the border between Brazil and Argentina. These falls are 80 meters high and because of the set of catwalks, you can stand right over their edge!

Wine Tasting

The small town of Maipú, near Mendoza, is so packed with wineries, olive oil farms and other gourmet businesses you will be able to visit a few in one day. All offer tours and a few companies rent bikes and electric scooters, making a day tour of the area the perefct outing.

White Water Rafting

Among the many incredible things to do in Argentina there are all sorts of adventure sports on offer. Salta and its surroundings offer incredible opportunities to adrenaline seekers and this is where you will find the best white water rafting in Argentina!

Tango

No time in Argentina is complete without giving Tango a try!  For a unique outdoor experience, head to the bandstand at the Barrancas de Belgrando park in Buenos Aires, where the casual milonga ‘La Glorieta’ takes place on Sunday evenings at around 8pm (free tango lessons are given earlier).

Top Places to Go

You will find the largest concentration of TEFL jobs in Buenos Aires, however this is by no means the only place to teach English. Major cities like Mendoza and Salta are also areas continually looking for TEFL Teachers. There are less jobs available, however due to the lack of schools offering TEFL certification outside of Buenos Aires, the amount of people looking for jobs is much less.

Buenos Aires

Argentina’s vibrant capital city is understandably the first place people think of when moving to Argentina. With a population over 12 million, there is a diverse range of people looking for help with their English skills, especially from native speakers. Colourful European architecture, fabulous shopping and the best night life Argentina has to offer are just some of the many reasons you will want to move to Buenos Aires.

Mendoza

Beautiful city, mountains, rivers, wineries and outdoor activities are some of the many reasons Mendoza attracts a lot of tourists every year. The region around Greater Mendoza is the largest wine producing area in Latin America so if you like Wine this place is for you.

Salta

Salta is the most visited city in the Northwestern region of Argentina. The city is the perfect size to explore by foot, where you'll be able to wonder round it's cobbled streets and beautiful town squares. You will also find an abundance of museums, great shopping and plenty of live music. It offers the facilities of a large city like Buenos Aires, however you will find there is less competition for TEFL jobs.
