Case Study of the Month : Vivien Smith

Have you been on a UK-TEFL course? Fill in this application form, and the best one will be featured in next month's newsletter! You will receive a FREE Absolute TEFL if your story is featured in a UK-TEFL newsletter.

Back in 2009, Vivien enrolled onto her UK-TEFL course in Liverpool after the impact of the credit crunch created an uncertain future for her job as a sales manager.  Eighteen months on, Vivien has started a new life in Qatar, with a dream career as a learning resource centre manager. She puts her success down to her UK-TEFL course, which gave her the skills and confidence she needed to achieve her dream.

Why did you choose UK-TEFL?

I chose to do a UK-TEFL course for a life and career change

Have you used your UK-TEFL qualification?

Yes, I use my qualification all the time as I now work in Qatar International School.

What is the best bit about being an EFL teacher?

The best thing about being an EFL teacher is that it has provided me with the confidence that I can achieve anything now that I have my certificate in hand!

Interesting Stories:

My UK-TEFL certificate made me realise I  was more than capable of becoming an EFL teacher, as well as providing me with the tools to push me forward into the educational field. Previously, I was working as a sales manager in England but once the credit crunch began, the situation became very difficult so I made the decision to change my life. After qualifying, I applied to QIS as a teaching aid armed with my TEFL certificate, and then a vacancy came up in the school library giving library lessons to international children from 11 to 18.  I got the job, plus I managed to do after school tutoring to earn some extra cash. Shortly after that, I was offered a job as a learning resource centre manager. My UK-TEFL qualification has allowed me to get to where I am today, and it just goes to show you never know what is round the corner; you just have to take the leap..............

What are your future plans?

I plan to gain experience as LRC manager including teaching English as a second language.

Any other comments?

Without my EFL course I wouldn’t be where I am today. Regardless of luck, I feel my success is down to the knowledge that the UK-TEFL course gave me, which has enabled me to go onto the International circuit knowing I can do it!
