TEFL Teaching Tips by Jenny
|
|
1. Get a good teaching & grammar guide such as Absolute TEFL
2. Complete the exercises you wish to use in class yourself and double check the answers
3. Have a collection of pre-prepared lessons for last minute teaching opportunities
4. Have a stock of warmers and fillers for those ‘panic’ moments
5. Take advantage of the Internet and the wealth of information available for classroom use.
6. Keep copies of ‘good’ activities and adapt for future classes
7. Make sure you prepare all tasks well and that there is a ‘flow’ to the lessons
8. If you don’t know the answer to something, don’t waffle – tell the class you will check it and get back to them.
9. Bring some postcards or information about your country, this is popular with EFL students
10. Build a network of teaching contacts for support & lesson sharing

1. Research your destination & school
2. Have some emergency money/ credit card

4. Pay extra for a flexible ticket (although some schools pay for your travel)
5. Bring some respectable teaching clothes (be culturally aware!)
6. Photocopy your documents and keep them in separate place from the originals (plus some copies at home)
7. Make sure someone at home knows your travel plans & point of contact at final destination.
8. Get good insurance!
9. Contact the local embassy on arrival.
10. UK employment law is very different to abroad, so do some research before you sign your contract.
