Teaching English Abroad

All you need to know

Teaching English as a foreign language can open up a world of opportunities to any individual, especially for someone who is looking to travel and work at the same time. Working as an EFL teacher provides you with stable work and the ability to immerse yourself into an entirely new community at the same time. You will also be able to give back to a range of communities who may not have the ability to self-teach the English language.

Why would I choose to teach English as a Foreign Language?

Aside from the fact that you will be giving a great deal back to the communities that you are working with, teaching English as a foreign language can provide you with a range of benefits both overseas and at home. Some of these include:

  • Being paid to travel – for many young people in particular, travelling can seem like something that is too expensive, or out of reach. By teaching English as a foreign language you have the ability to travel to many countries right around the world, while earning an income which means you won’t be breaking the bank. Teaching English abroad is a fully paid job and in many situations it can pay well. Your employer may also cover some or all of your living expenses and as a result you could find it an easy way to save more money than you would at home.
  • Improving your CV – in addition to your qualifications, the fact that you have gone to another country to teach English says a lot about your character and this can be an incredibly desirable attribute to employers who might be looking for someone with that extra edge. Teaching English overseas can be incredibly appealing to an employer who sees that you are a real team player and that you are able to easily relate with a wide range of people.
  • Learning about other cultures – by immersing yourself into an educational environment you have the ability to learn about other cultures in a way that you may never have before. Working in this environment you have the ability to learn directly from the locals and understand a real, rich cultural heritage.

What level of education do I need to teach English as a Foreign Language?

Anyone has the ability to teach English as a foreign language and in most situations you don’t need a degree or additional qualifications, apart from a TEFL qualification. This is where UK-TEFL comes in. Our team of fully qualified teachers are on hand to prepare you to enter any classroom environment and our range of two and three day courses are specifically designed to prepare you for work in an EFL environment.
