Why did you choose to do a UK-TEFL course?
I decided to enrol on a UK-TEFL course to acquire the skills which would allow me to change my career and move abroad. I already have a degree in English, so teaching seemed to be the logical route to use my skills and gain a fantastic experience too!
How did you find the course?
I searched online for TEFL courses initially, and came across UK-TEFL. I rang up with a few queries, and the TEFL advisors were excellent and knowledgeable, answering all my questions thoroughly and clarifying all aspects of the course and the finding work process. Speaking to them helped to me realise that this was the right course for me, and I booked onto the Belfast course soon after.
The course itself was brilliant and far exceeded my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Would you recommend the course to others?
Definitely, it’s only been a few days since I passed the course and I can’t stop telling everyone all about it! My niece is about to go to university so I have recommended it to her, and other friends and family are interested too!
What was the best part of the course?
It is very difficult to select a specific element of the course, as every bit of it was very good and I enjoyed whole thing. Although some tasks were more fun than others, each part of the course had its purpose and the teaching practices, although daunting, were very useful too.
Where do you plan to teach English?
I am specifically looking towards the Middle East, hopefully Abu Dhabi, although I wouldn’t rule out other destinations such as Spain to gain some experience.
Why have you chosen this destination?
I am hoping to secure employment as soon as possible. Abu Dhabi is somewhere I have always wanted to go and I am looking for a more permanent career rather than just travelling around. The job security of longer contracts, plus attractive salaries and benefits, makes the Middle East very appealing too.
What is the most interesting/helpful thing you learnt on the course?
I think that the language and grammar aspects of the course were the most interesting. Even though I have a degree in English, I found studying the technical side of the language a real eye opener and I have become more conscious of my pronunciation now! It has also made me realise that it is a common misconception that grammar is boring, because with the right approach to teaching you can make it a fun and engaging experience for your students.
Are you going to keep in touch with other students and trainer?
I have already kept in touch with one of my fellow students, as she is also looking to teach in the Middle East.
What are your long term goals or ambitions?
My long term goal is to start a new life living and working in the Middle East.
Have you done any travelling?
I haven’t travelled recently, but I spent a year living in Spain when I was 18, and learnt a little Spanish whilst I was there too! I had a great experience living abroad, and I’m looking forward to doing it again.
Any advice for those thinking about doing a course?
I can’t sing the praises of the UK-TEFL course enough. I would advise anyone considering it to stop thinking about it, and just do it! The course ticks so many boxes by helping you to acquire presentation skills, improve your grammar and ultimately build your confidence.
UK-TEFL wish Katrina the best of luck with her employment search!
