STUDENT INTERVIEW

Elizabeth Stevenson

Elizabeth enrolled on her UK-TEFL course to get a qualification that would enable her to travel. She tells us about her favourite aspects of the course, and where she hopes to start her travelling!

Location : Blackburn

Course Location: Manchester

Course Date: 7th and 8th January 2012

Trainer:  Emma Tudor

Why did you choose to do a UK-TEFL course?

I had been interested in doing a TEFL course for a while, and when a promotion popped up in my inbox it was far too good to miss!

How did you find the course?

I had a look on the UK-TEFL website, and I was impressed with the range of courses and locations on offer, plus the job opportunities available afterwards.

Would you recommend the course to others?

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.

What was the best part of the course?

My favourite part of the entire weekend was the language immersion lesson that our trainer, Emma, showed us. She pretended she was Chinese and taught a lesson entirely in this language. It was a practical demonstration which was a great way to show that you can teach a class without knowing the native language of your students. It didn’t really believe this until I saw it, so it was really useful and quite an eye-opener!

Where do you plan to teach English?

I hope to use this qualification in the future to travel, as it offers the perfect way to see the world. On discussing destinations with my trainer, I am interested in focusing on going to Indonesia or Vietnam.

Are you going to keep in touch with other students and trainer?

I have chosen my ideal destinations as Indonesia or Vietnam because they seem to be areas where job prospects for EFL teachers are good, the cost of living is relatively low and there are different cultures which I would love to experience!

Have you done any travelling? Any travelling tips?

I intend to stay in touch with my trainer, Emma, as she was so helpful on the course and gave me some great advice.

What are your long term goals or ambitions?

I intend to use my UK-TEFL certificate as a way of travelling and gaining skills and experience to use in my career in the future, although I am not necessarily intending to pursue a long term career in teaching.

Any advice for those thinking about doing a course?

I would recommend anyone to take the course, it was great!

Have you done any travelling? Any tips?

I haven’t done any travelling in the past, so this would be my first venture! I am very much looking forward to the experiences it will bring.
