This course can be completed BEFORE you go on one of our two or three day UK-TEFL courses if you are a bit worried about your level of English grammar. Even though we are totally fluent in English, we don’t really know how the language fits together, as we are not taught this way.
Many people forget the basics of grammar they learned at school and not knowing grammar is one of the biggest fears for a first time teacher.

This is where the English Language Awareness Course comes in. Nominated for the ELT08 Innovation Awards by the British Council, the course is selective - the items are carefully chosen for new teachers and presented at Pre-TEFL course level, so you learn everything you need to know and don't waste time on things you don’t. The course will save you valuable time in your preparation as a teacher, leaving you much more time to work on your classroom teaching skills and getting to know your students.
The English Language Awareness Course will help you brush up your knowledge of the English Language and will fully prepare you for the UK-TEFL course or boost your knowledge after the course. It consists of 30 units taking you through the major rules and terminology of English grammar with videos of a classroom scenario; showing you what a teacher gets their students to do and audio clips to help with pronunciation.
Once you have signed up, you receive log in details and you will work through the course online. It includes 30 to 50 study hours working at your own pace. It allows 45 days for completion but you can extend to a further 45 days for a reduced rate of £37.50.
Assessment
The course isn’t assessed in the same way as our other further training courses; it isn’t about passing or failing it’s about learning. There are quizzes and exercises which you can repeat as many times as you like until you get it right. An online tutor is on hand if you have any questions and you can talk to other trainee teachers via the message board. On completion, you will receive an English Language Awareness Certificate.
