Why is there a demand for English teachers?
The demand for EFL teachers here has levelled after the rapid increase over the past 20 years, but nevertheless prospects for EFL teachers remain good. In particular, conversation classes with native English speakers have increased in popularity, meaning you have a good chance of securing a position teaching English as a Foreign Language in Poland.
You will find many students are very eager to work, open and rather enthusiastic which will allow for some lively and interesting classes.

How do I go about getting a job in Poland?
We would recommend that you wait until in the country before applying for a position. Schools and universities are more likely to employ you if you meet them with your CV and TEFL certificate, so they can judge your level of English in person. They like potential candidates to present themselves in a professional manner.
International House has a big presence in Poland with plenty of schools, and therefore is a good place.to begin your search, or alternatively the Warsaw yellow pages has a section where you can find private language schools.
Another route that you can pursue is to offer private tuition. Many companies require English tutors for their employees and will pay the fees for this. Holiday Language Camps are increasingly popular in Poland. They take on approx 350 volunteers ever year but also offer paid posts for English Instructors, which are predominantly filled by native English speakers with a TEFL certificate. A useful place to look in Poland would be to contact the Polish Cultural Institute Education Office www.polishculture.org.uk. This is not an employment agency but they will refer enquirers to the appropriate organisations. Interested teachers should not expect to be snapped up unless they have a TEFL certificate, so why not apply for a course near you today!
Where do EFL teachers live?
If you get a position working in a holiday camp you will automatically have accommodation included with the post. This is also a standard condition with many longer term EFL jobs, and transport perks are also often included with contracts.

Do I need to learn/speak Polish?
This is not a necessity for working in Poland as English is widely spoken. In most restaurants there are English menus too.
What is the food like?
Typical Polish dishes are hearty meals which often contain a lot of meat.
The main ingredients used in Polish cuisine are a mixture of herbs and spices. Meat is often finished off by a shot of vodka to wash it all down!
What will I do in the evenings, on days off or on my holidays?
If you are based in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, you may want to experience some of the arts and culture around including numerous theatres, cinemas and museums to entertain. If you are based near Krakow make sure you experience the Old Town district which has more bars per square metre than anywhere else in the world! Also, make sure you visit the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau while you are there – it is free entry and within half an hour of Krakow Old Town.
How much does not it cost to fly to Poland from the UK?
Budget airlines offer flights for as little as £30 one way.
When is the best time to travel to Poland for English teaching jobs? Poland is a great place to find EFL jobs, and you should aim to arrive ahead of the start of terms in October and February. If you are looking to work at a Holiday Language Camp though, we suggest you apply a few months before they are due to start..
Is Poland safe?
Poland is generally a very safe country.
