Why is there a demand for English teachers?
Jordan thrives on tourism and, because of this, locals need a good knowledge of English.  Many people also need to develop their level of English to get employed so there is a great demand for English teachers.

How do I go about getting a job in Jordan?
Speak to the British Council for a list of private schools and language schools that you can apply directly to. Also, another route you could go down to find work in Jordan would be to look at journals such as the International Employment Gazette.

Where do EFL teachers live?
Most of the positions in Jordan come with live in accommodation. If you find yourself without accommodation just check the local press for advertisements.

Do I need to learn/speak Arabic?
You do not need to speak Arabic to teach English in Jordan. Due to the influence of tourism, English is widely spoken.

What is the food like?
The authentic cuisine ranges from grilling (shish kebabs) to stuffed vegetables (grape leaves/aubergines).

What will I do in the evenings, on days off or on my holidays?
Jordan is rich with history and culture so when you have a free day you may chose to explore. Some of the highlights would be The Citadel which is an archaeological landmark or the Roman amphitheatre which is still used for entertainment purposes. If you want to relax rather than explore you could spend your day on the beach or chill out in one of Jordan’s many spas.
