Why is there a demand for English teachers?
Teaching English in Argentina is still ticking over, with vacancies available if you know where to look. Business English is in high demand in Argentina and teachers are often commissioned by private companies to come in-house and give lessons to their staff. Even though American English can sometimes be preferred, this is not always the case.

How do I go about getting a job in Argentina?
The best way to get a job in Argentina is to send your CV to all the schools you would consider working in and wait for the responses. You will normally be invited to an interview, but make sure you ask for an interview in English if your Spanish skills aren’t up to scratch!

Be aware, most interviews will not be based on your experience but on your availability to work. There are also voluntary positions in cultural exchange programmes which are a great way to get some experience.

Where do EFL teachers live?
Many companies will accept untrained teachers as interns and provide free board and lodging with a family. You will often get the additional benefit of Spanish tuition and plenty of opportunities to travel and see the country. If living with a family is not for you, check out local advertisements for accommodation on short term contracts.

Do I need to learn/speak Spanish?
No knowledge of Spanish is required and if you are placed with a family, Spanish tuition is often given.

What is the food like?
Food is very cheap and meat is particularly popular, especially beef! If you are a meat lover, you will adore Argentina!

What will I do in the evenings, on days off or on my holidays?
There is plenty to do in Argentina to fill your free time when you are not teaching. The Iguazu Falls in particular are well worth a visit. These falls flow from the Iguazu river, whose source can be found in Brazil. The train to the clouds is also a must. Available from April to October, trips are made between four and seven times a month so make sure you book early as places are limited. The route itself is 217 km and is one of the three highest railroads in the world.  This is an unmissable chance to enjoy the views and explore all the stops.

How much does it cost to fly to Argentina from the UK?
Flights start from £600

When is the best time to travel to Argentina for English teaching jobs?
The best time to get a job in Argentina is between March and April

Is Argentina safe?
Argentina is a very safe country but the current climate has lead to an increase in the numbers of beggars, who are not threatening in any way, but will just ask for money.
