FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The  You must be aged sixteen or over to enrol on a UK-TEFL course.

You don’t need any qualifications; as long as you can speak English fluently you can go on the Standard Course – even if you don’t have any teaching experience. For the Advanced course you must have any previous TEFL qualification, including weekend TEFL certificates, CELTA, Trinity TESOL and online TEFL qualifications.

You don’t need to be an expert as some grammar will be covered on the course. Most people haven’t studied grammar since school so you won’t be the only one. If you do want to brush up, you can enrol on our English language awareness course or alternatively, you may want to purchase the A-Z of English Grammar Book to refer back to.

You can call us on 0871 222 1231 or apply online – just click here.

The main difference is the 2 day course is held at weekends, and the 3 day course is held during the week. They cover the same content, but the 3 day course has shorter days. If it is possible for you to attend the 3 day course during week, we would recommend you do this, as you will gain an extra lesson practice and more one-to-one time with your trainer and, therefore, more hours of training on your certificate.

You don’t need to buy anything to attend the course, although we would recommend purchasing The TEFL Starter Pack if you are attending the Standard Course

During the course you will be able to practice teaching with other students on the course. It will involve role play so you will know what it’s like to be a teacher AND a student. This will hopefully encourage you to put it into practice for real and to find a job.

Our classes have around 20 students. Numbers vary depending on the time of year, so classes may be smaller.

There is no exam as there is continuous assessment throughout the course.

You can fail but it is the trainers’ job to get you through the course. In our experience the only people who do fail are not really suited to becoming a teacher. Our fail rate is less than one percent.

UK-TEFL is the organisation that runs the TEFL courses with its accredited trainers. We work with some other organisations and agencies that sell spaces on our courses. After attending a UK-TEFL course, regardless of who you bought the course from, you will receive certification from UK-TEFL.

CELTA stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. It has, traditionally, been the only route to gaining EFL employment in the UK or overseas. A CELTA course lasts four weeks full time, in a classroom. This is not to be confused with courses that have the majority of their training done online. A job asking for CELTA, or equivalent, will only accept those who have done a CELTA or a Trinity TESOL course.

An employer is only interested in time spent in the classroom, therefore online and distance learning hours do not count as time spent in the classroom and will not enable you to gain employment. If a job is asking for 120 hours of training it will mean a CELTA or Trinity TESOL qualification. Untrustworthy TEFL organisations will try and claim that their courses are the equivalent of a CELTA course purely because they provide up to 120 hours of training but these courses are predominantly comprised of online study and should not be confused with a CELTA.

Accommodation is not included in the price of the TEFL course, so you will need make your own arrangements if you need to stay overnight in the course location. A suggested hotel is listed at the bottom of every course location page, to see agreed rates that we have with venues, please click here.

Yes, NCFE has awarded UK-TEFL with its Investing in Quality licence which gives formal recognition to our in-house programmes.  NCFE is a recognised awarding organisation.

Yes, all you need to do is call 0871 222 1231 to speak to an advisor. You will need to provide all of your details, and an invoice will be sent out to your employer.

You can book up until midnight the day before your course, but we would recommend that you book at least two weeks in advance to ensure you get a place.

The standard course is your first step into TEFL, and is designed to give you a comprehensive knowledge of teaching EFL, incorporating topics such as grammar and phonetics.

The Advanced course is the next stage onwards, and is designed to build on the TEFL skills you will already have acquired, whilst equipping you with a more specialised and detailed knowledge, specifically related to the types of teaching scenarios you are likely to encounter. You will focus on business English, young learners, advanced learners and one-to-one and it is a great way to help you stand out to employers.

Your Advanced Certificate is a 20 hour qualification, which is internationally recognised and accredited by the NCFE.

You will be qualified to teach a variety of TEFL classes, from business English, to young learners, advanced learners and also one-to-one classes. You will have a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of TEFL and your range of skills will ensure you are highly employable.

As with the standard course, there is no final exam on the Advanced Course. You will be continually assessed throughout the course by your trainer, in relation to the way you handle the tasks you are given.

Although not essential, we highly recommend our Advanced TEFL pack which is one of our most popular products for those taking the Advanced Course. The pack includes a complete set of 30 lesson plans, covering various topics and proficiency levels along with a guide to teaching English privately.

Through our extensive experience in the TEFL industry, along with our worldwide recruitment contacts, we know that classroom-based qualifications are the only way that you will be able to secure EFL employment which is why we only offer these courses. In terms of finding work, online TEFL courses are worthless and are usually disregarded by employers. The skills required to teach EFL cannot be acquired througn online study, therefore we strongly advise you to attend a classroom course which will give you a widely recognised and accredited certificate and realistic employment opportunities.
