October marks a grand occasion in Thailand’s calendar, when the official celebrations take place to mark King Bhumibol's 84^th birthday. The King is the world’s longest serving head of state, having reigned for six years longer than Queen Elizabeth II. He ascended to the throne in 1946, and is an accomplished jazz musician, sail boat designer and also holds various patents on rainmaking.

The event will be commemorated with a flotilla of Royal Barges, which are the last of their kind in the world, forming a procession to carry the revered Buddha and the Royal Family to present saffron kathin robes to the monks at the Temple of Dawn.  The 52 barges will be sailed by over 2,000 Royal Thai Naval Officers in a battle formation from ancient times, a rare event which last took place for the King’s Diamond Jubilee in 2006.

A bit about Thailand: Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country located at the centre of Southeast Asia, and bordered by Laos, Burma, Cambodia and Malaysia. Thailand has a booming tourist industry, centred around areas such as Koh Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai. This country is associated with Buddhist beliefs and is noted for their national sport, Thai Boxing, and renowned cuisine with fragrant flavours of jasmine and lemongrass.

A bit about the placement: You could be working at a school in North or Central Thailand, teaching children or teenagers at either primary or secondary level.  You can choose a contract between 4 and 8 months, and you’ll enjoy a free orientation in Bangkok. This placement is a great way to gain fantastic TEFL experience in an enviable location.
