DESTINATION OF THE MONTH

Slovakia

Welcome in the New Year with a fantastic new teaching placement in Slovakia!

Slovakia is a republic in Central Europe, and is also a member of the EU. As a former part of Czechoslovakia, the collapse of communism in 1989 led a few years later to the peaceful division of the country into the independent states of the Slovak Republic (Slovakia) and the Czech Republic.

Slovakia is renowned for its mountainous landscape, particularly the Tatra Mountain Range close to the Poland border which is a popular destination for skiing. The country is also synonymous with caves, castles, palaces and architecture which attract numerous visitors each year.

A bit about Nitra:

This placement is based in Nitra, the fifth largest city in Slovakia, which can be found in the West of the country. The castles and the old town are amongst some of the most notable landmarks here. This city is also connected to Bratislava by a freeway.

The capital city, Bratislava, is the economic and cultural hub of the country. One of the most iconic sights in Bratislava is the vast Novy Most bridge stretching across the Danube. For those with a head for heights, perched on top of two pillars above the bridge is a flying saucer shaped construction housing a restaurant with breathtaking views across the river and the city.

A bit about the placement:
